Dedicated employees at Coveris Burnley, UK, have tackled litter and waste in the local community in recognition of Earth Day 2024. Coveris, located on Netherwood Road, organised litter picks on Tuesday 23rd April in its surrounding riverbank and woodland areas, aligned with its sustainability vision, No Waste.
Earth Day was founded in 1970 and mobilises over one billion people annually on 22nd April in support of environmental themed activities to help safeguard the planet. Earth Day kicks off Coveris Burnley’s community litter picks in 2024, which are set to continue throughout the year to support the environment in the local area which includes a riverbank and picturesque woodland, popular with walkers.
26 employees from a range of production, office and management roles volunteered their time to support the site’s Earth Day plans. Using equipment supplied by Burnley Borough Council, employees collected around 30 bags of rubbish, which included old clothing, discarded toys and litter.
A supplier of packaging to leading brands and retailers, Coveris believes that fighting waste in all its forms, including litter and landfill, is the driving force of a more sustainable future and has built its entire sustainability strategy around a vision of No Waste. A key pillar of Coveris’ sustainability strategy is no product waste, and the packaging manufacturer works extensively to provide protection, shelf-life extension and security, helping to reduce food waste.
